Back in 2007, Constable Anthony Polonio, was charged for perjury in the case of Chay Ben Abou-Nehra - which resulted in Abou-Nehra's acquittal. At the time, police said he had contradicted previous evidence in court; in the press it was called sudden amnesia.
But, after the headlines faded, Polonio and another officer, Darius Ramos were acquitted of perjury. But, by then Polonio had already been dismissed from the police department after he was convicted in a police tribunal. But, after the acquittal, he wanted his old job back - but could not get re-instatement.
Well, he's been fighting his case for years, going from one attorney to the other isn a countersuit, and still he can't get compensation for what should have been his years of service, or a pension.
But, Polonio, who is 59 now won't stop fighting to clear his name. And now, after some exhaustion with the run around in the coirts, he's come to the press. He called a virtual press conference today and said he's been denied justice:
Polonio's case is still meandering through the Supreme Court.
