A man may be charged after he not only knocked down a Corozal resident, but also lied to the police about it. Reports are that the driver, Roy Burgess, allegedly hit the victim, 43-year-old Elias Villanueva, with his vehicle on Friday and rushed him to the hospital, but did not confess to the crime. ACP Joseph Myvett told us what their investigation has revealed.
ACP Joseph Myvette - Head NCIB
"On the 20th of November sometime after or around 8:00pm police were called to the Corozal community hospital where they observed one Elias Villanueva with bodily injuries, what the police know so far is that Villanueva was taken to the hospital by one Roy Burgess who claimed that he was in the area of Santa Rita in Corozal when he saw Villanueva injured on the ground and as a result took him to the hospital, however, our police investigation revealed that from other witnesses that it was Burgess who accidentally ran over Villanueva and thereafter was assisted by others who took him to the hospital. As a result Burgess was detained and his vehicle was impounded and he was later served with a notice of intended prosecution. Villanueva was later transferred to the northern regional hospital and later to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is listed in a stable condition."
