Tonight, police in the Stann Creek District are looking for the driver who killed a man in a hit-and-run. And, they are asking the public's help to solve this case because the victim was knocked down on a secluded part of the Stann Creek Valley Road.

He has been identified as 65-year-old Israel Argueta, and police say that on Saturday night, he was riding his bicycle on the road when he was knocked down.

This morning, the Head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch shared what details they have on this fatal accident:

"On the 12th of December sometime around 7:20pm, Dangriga police were called to an area between miles 8 and 9 on the Stann Creek Valley road where they observed the lifeless body of Israel Argueta, 64 years old on the side of the highway when travelling north, a damaged bicycle was also a short distance away from him. What the police know so far is that Argueta was travelling north bound on his bicycle when he was hit from behind by a vehicle which caused his fatal injuries. The police are investigating this matter at this time and are seeking the public's assistance of anyone who has any information that can assist us in this investigation to come forward. So far we have been unable to locate the vehicle or get a proper description of the vehicle or the driver"

"We are not giving a description of the vehicle. Officers are still on the ground trying to piece together that we can share with the public that may assist in detaining this driver."

Today, a family member declined an interview and would only say "We're devastated for losing him and just wish we would find out who did it." End quote.
