And while that was the last murder for 2020, the first murder for the New Year occurred at 10:30 on the night of January 1 - well after curfew.

The victim is 26-year-old Kelvin Lindo, a resident of Placencia who was planning to relocate to Santa Cruz Village. But before he could finish building his home, he was killed in cold blood. Courtney Menzies has this story.

26-year-old Kelvin Lindo was planning to make Santa Cruz his home - but a gunman cut those plans short when he fatally shot Lindo on New Year's Day. The details of the murder are a bit sketchy, since the only possible eyewitness says he didn't see a thing.

The incident occurred at the home of 50-year-old Herminio Alvarez who police say is a suspect in this latest murder.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head NCIB

"Mr. Alvarez along with two other people were socializing in his yard when, according to him, Lindo approached and he then went inside his home where he heard of a struggle and then heard what sounded like a gunshot. He is detained at this time pending the investigation and police are seeking two other persons whom we believe are key to this investigation."

Initial reports suggested that the gunman had been looking for an associate of Lindo that had recently left's Alvarez's home. The motive, according to ACP Myvett, is an old drug dispute between the group of men.

And while Lindo's family resides in Plancencia - where he is originally from - he made many friends in the few years he had been working in Santa Cruz. He even had a son, and the infant's great aunt told us that Lindo took great care of him.

"When was the last time you guys saw him?"

Ilomada Jeier, Friend of Deceased
"Before Christmas we saw him, after that we don't see him too much over here. Maybe he went to see his family."

Lindo's son is only four months old.

Lindo is reportedly an associate of a well-known man in Santa Cruz Village, who has had plenty of run-ins with the law. Police refrained from confirming this, however.
