A Cayo man who found work in the Belize District was killed while doing his daily tasks. Yesterday, we showed you the scene of a shooting on Mahogany Street and up to news time last night, the victim was still breathing. Sadly, he succumbed while receiving treatment early this morning. Courtney Menzies has a recap of the events that led to the demise of Jose Santos.

Yesterday when Scenes of Crime personnel were canvassing the scene of a shooting on Mahogany Street, they didn't know that the four expended shells they found would turn out to be evidence in a murder.

43-year-old Jose Santos sat right here in the driver's seat of this Delivery Truck from Jacky's Bakery in the 8 Miles Community.

But after he was shot, he fell over to the passenger side, where his blood soaked into the car seat and spilled onto the floor.

The truck arrived in front of Tow Tow Grocery Store shortly after 10 in the morning. The other delivery man exited the truck, and shortly after his co-worker was shot four times - in the shoulder and chest.

A man on a bicycle was caught on surveillance footage riding off right after the incident.

A minute later, police arrived on the scene, and Santos - still alive - was placed inside an ambulance.

But Santos did not survive the ordeal and passed away just before 2 this morning at the KHMH.

According to co-workers, he had been working at the bakery for two years and lived onsite. He is originally from Armenia Village.

So far police do have a suspect detained.
