There were a series of disturbing crimes carried out apparently by cross border bandits in Cayo and Benque this weekend.

The first report is form the Kontiki Area of San Ignacio.

"Saturday sometime around 9:30pm police were called to the home of Ismael Lopez in the Kontiki area of San Ignacio where they learnt that shortly before 9:30pm whilst Mr. Lopez was at home with his 4 children, they were approached by 3 Hispanic males who were armed and wearing masks who entered his home where himself and his children were bound whilst his home was ransacked and a number of items were stolen from him including his vehicle which was a grey Toyota 4-Runner was stolen by those persons. Police are investigating this matter."

"Yes we are. At this point in time we cannot confirm whether they are Belizeans. They spoke Spanish, but we cannot confirm if they are Belizeans. The police have stepped up operations in those areas and we are asking person to secure their homes properly and vehicles, because in most instances during these aggravated burglaries happening in the west, those homes are either not secured at the time the incidents are happening, or persons stepped outside of their homes to retrieve something from their vehicles."
