And while the COMPOL is once again singing the merits of Community Policing, Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler is speaking out against two recent callous killings at the hand of the police.

Today he told the media that Cabinet has discussed measures that should put a stop to these fatalities.

Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism

"That should never have happened, it was senseless and it didn't escalate to that point where deadly force should have been used and so we have spoken about that in cabinet and we want to make certain decisions and put in place certain protocols and plans for us to minimize any of that type of event from happening again. Now, people in the Santa Familia area were frustrated, they were angry and that is what you saw. But breaking the law like that doesn't help as well, but they were venting and I understand the frustration from the family and the friends and the people in that community and hopefully we never have to have another Laddie and another Jessie. It is not right. I don't want to see my people living in fear like black American living in the United States. I use to live in Georgia and I know how that feels when you are targeted by the police. And so I can only express my sympathies to the family and say we will put in place the measures to mitigate and minimize these incidents from happening. I will allow the minister of police and the minister responsible for BDF to educate the population about what those plans are."
