And another young man whose life was cut short is 21-year-old Malique Medwood.
Last night, Medwood was a short distance from his house, heading to his sister's, when gunshots rang out. His sister had actually just got off the phone with him, when she got another call saying that he had been hit.
It's a call no family wants to get, but it's not the first one this family has gotten. Back in 2012, Medwood's brother had also been fatally shot.
And this family says they have had to deal with constant threats and gun violence from the other residents in the area. Although they want to leave, they say they have nowhere else to go, and now Medwood's mother has to come to terms with losing a second child. She shared her lamentation today:

"By the time I finish done eat, I hear bang bang bang, I told my daughter that's gunshots by the time my daughter look through the window, the neighbors the run go down the street. My son, he run back back through here and say Malique they shot and by the time I run downstairs is because every down yonder, my son already on the ground, 3 gunshot in the back of his head."

"And your son is not a gang member?"

"No, my son no hang out, he no gang bang, you can look up his record, he have a clean record, his record is a clean record. My son is somebody that no fool around, he's home, he'll run lee jokes and so with we, he always stay home, he say ma I don't like around here. He get up one time, bathe, change and go to his friends. When time for he to come home, eat and when time to sleep, he sleep. Every boy walk around there, they stone them with bottle, threaten then, holler they are not suppose to pass back around here, we run around here, all kind of stupidness they tell them. It's not the first time this the happen."

"Second one. It's rough miss, nobody can't take it, my daughter that is asthmatic, she passed out."

"From last night, I pass out on the court, I gone to hospital, I pass out, I come just now from Paul Lino funeral office and I pass out again upstairs in front of my sister"
Medwood has a toddler, and his girlfriend was pregnant with a son that was due on Christmas Day.
This afternoon, Medwood's sister told us that her brothers had just been detained, and they feel it's harassment during a time when they are mourning.
