So, you'll see that story in a minute but - first, we did challenge the commissioner on his version of events. This is the second drug plane landing in a row where he says the narcos used pins across the road to disable the police transport from proceeding. We asked, how credible is that? Here's his response:
Jules Vasquez
"Is there any really verifiable proof of this or is it just a story to explain a way the police's inability to respond in a time fashion? Because I haven't heard anybody else speak about these spikes on the road and you know I have good sources."
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"Well certainly Jules you may have the most impeccable source and it does not mean that your sources would be as forthcoming or as truthful as you may want them to be and so they can be impeccably nonsense source. There's no need for us to paint a picture that does not exist. I have always said to the Belizean people, I will always be honest and forthcoming, I don't care how anyone may look at it or think of me afterwards but I'm not going to lie, I'm not going to try pretty a story for no reason at all. At the end of the day, the people need to know the truth and certainly I don't see any reason why the officers who responded would come up any such ideas and a matter of fact the tires for the vehicles are severely damaged from these spikes, the last time it happened to the BDF truck that was responding and this case it was the police vehicle that was responding in the particular area and we have to understand that these drug traffickers are getting more innovative and they are trying to find best ways as they can to delay the police response to where they are."
Again, our team is just back from the scene and we'll have their first hand story coming up later in the news.
