There was some commotion at the Phillip Goldson International airport today when the Ministry of Immigration attempted to deport a group of Cubans, 7 adults - one of them a pregnant woman - and two children.

It's a complicated case with lots of twists and turns because two of the women claim to have been assaulted and kidnapped in Mexico before turning up in Corozal. They were initially detained on February 15th and held at the Kolbe foundation for 50 days until this morning.

And while they were all set to go back to Cuba on a TAG airline flight, the Human Rights Commission intervened, making an immediate application of habeas corpus to a judge who urgently reviewed the matter. Thereafter the courts communicated with the ministry of immigration to place an injunction on the deportation until they are able to set a date to review the matter.

We sought an update on their whereabouts this evening from the human rights commission paralegal and we were told that at this hour the adults who've only managed to say that they are quote "Very scared" are back in the Kolbe foundation where they have spent the last 50 days.
