19-year-old Delso Alveno died tragically in a 3-car-pileup on the Phillip Goldson Highway last night. It happened at about 7:30 between miles 37 and 38. A dump truck traveling toward Orange Walk crashed head-on into a Saturn Vue. That head-on collision only became compounded when another vehicle, a Ford f-150 rear ended the dump truck.

Our News team travelled north this morning to learn more. Here is that story.

3 vehicles collided here on the Northern highway last night in a dramatic pileup that took the life of a 19-year-old man.

And this morning this crumbled Saturn Vue - towed to a forgotten junkyard in Orange Walk town - is all the family of Delso Antonio Alveno - can look to for answers.

And while we may never know his version of the event that lead to his death, one man who our news cameras found clearing debris this morning gave us a second hand account of the terrible accident.

Voice of: Friend of Eyewitness
"Well the truck was going back to Orange Walk and the car was going to Belize city and the truck was driving on his right-hand side and there was coming to another vehicle on the back an F-150 belonging to a guy from Orange Walk San Estevan and the guy from Orange Walk San Estevan saw when the car swerved directly in front of the car and hit the truck and upon hitting the truck the truck lost control and swerved a little out from the roadside actually completely out from the roadside and well that's what occurred, no. The truck advanced like 50 feet from here to where you see the fries. Well, right there was the truck."

And this morning the driver of the dump truck, Orange Walk's Steve Laing found himself detained by the police investigating the young life that's been lost.

But according to our eyewitness, Laing isn't the one at fault.

Cherisse Halsall:
"So in you're estimation the fault here would be with the driver who hit the truck from in front?"

Voice of: Friend of Eyewitness
"Well definitely because if he hadn't come in the truck's lane he would have reached where he was going."

Cherisse Halsall:
"And that's what you would say to people who say well the truck got it from the front and the back, so it had to be the truck's fault."

Voice of: Friend of Eyewitness
"No the guy that hit the back that was because the truck spilt all the oil which the firemen had to wash the same night because it was a pool of oil and the truck, the pickup coming at the back couldn't control it that's what the driver said and then he never hit the back of the truck he hit the right corner of the truck that's what happened and well they guy said that the truck saved his life because if it was him and the other car maybe he would be a dead man right now. So the truck was a shield for him."

And at this hour police continue to investigate the accident and no charges have been announced.
