A man was sentenced to 13 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March of this year - two years after he allegedly chopped a man to death.

In August of 2019, the accused, Andres Valle Diaz, had an altercation with the victim, Kelvin Hernandez, in Hope Creek Village, during which Diaz viciously chopped Hernandez twice in the back of his neck, killing him on the spot. Hernandez passed away and in March 2020, Diaz was arrested and charged for Hernandez's murder. He was indicted in April 2021, and in March of this year, his defence council indicated to the court that he wanted to enter a guilty plea to a lesser offence.

The plea was accepted by the Crown and today, Diaz was sentenced. He had previously served two years on remand - so he has 11 years left to serve.
