Tonight, the BNTU has responded to a social media video posted by teacher Joanne Ysaguirre.
A release tonight from President Elena Smith says that the Union is greatly disturbed by Ysaguirre's account and goes on to highlight an education amendment from 2012 that although never enforced allows for the quote: "sanctioning of management and the disciplining of administrators"
The Union calls this lack of enforcement a prejudicial practice and urges the Ministry of education to now carry out quote: "what is mandated by law…in the interest of impartial and respectful treatment of teachers." They go on to call on the Ministry of Education to quote: "hold all Managements accountable for the lack of proper supervision of their schools and for disrespecting their roles as summoned by the Rules."
It's an issue that according to the release is in the best interest of the mental health of teachers like Yssaguirre who, in light of the pressures brought on their profession by the pandemic, have, quote: "been ignored for far too long."
The release ends by denouncing all forms of injustice being levied on our teachers and we take a zero-tolerance stance for any infringement of the rights of their members.
