You can call her Corporal Courageous - 27 year old police officer Jacklyn Guzman continues to recover at the Western Regional Hospital after she was shot in the line of duty.
As we reported on Tuesday, Corporal Guzman and Constable Daniel Che responded to a home invasion and vehicle theft in the Shawville area of San Ignacio. But when they got there, the bandits who stole the Nissan Rogue shot Guzman in the leg, and ran over Constable Che.
But even after she was shot, we are told that Guzman - who is a mother of three young children - didn't rush to the hospital - instead she stayed at the scene assisting her colleagues. It was later determined that she had been shot with a.357 Magnum, a very powerful prohibited firearm.
She had surgery yesterday - and her family tells us the incision was sewn back up with 30 stitches. She hopes to have a full recover and be back home soon with her kids age 1, 4, and 9.
Her extraordinary courage in the face of a threat earned her a visit from the Minister of Home Affairs yesterday.
Regrettably, the culprits escaped into the night and are believed to have fled into Guatemala - which is probably where they came from.
