And in other news, a fire in San Ignacio turned a shelter for survivors of domestic abuse into ashes early this morning. It was around 1:00 am when the shelter called "Mary Open Doors" was burnt down, taking with it all the possessions of the women staying upstairs, Rose Buckley, and her daughter. And while they survived, they now need to start from scratch.

And a neighbour said that they suspect it was the resident living downstairs - an allegedly mentally ill man - who may have started the fire.

"I was awaken by Ms Rose Buckley who shout at me and banged on my house calling me for help and I came out and out and saw that the Mary Open Door house was in flames. It was already consumed by fire and I took a hose to try and assist her but it was impossible because it was already engulfed."

"I immediately tell my wife to get a bucket and to get the hose and try to assist her but by the time I try to put the water, the water didn't come out, so there was no water. So we call the police and we call the fire department for assistance so the fire department came an hour or half an hour afterwards and they started to out the fire."

"When I came out to assist Ms Rose, the fire was at a small room where one Johnny used to stay and I don't know how comes the fire was by that room, but it was there that I noticed the fire started."

"He was not around, actually on Thursday about 10 my lady says in front of the house, where they do sewing, and he saw when Johnny lit a paper trying to burn the steps of the house so we knew more or less that he caused this fire."

"To my knowledge, a person that is in his full sense don't really react and behave that way because he was behaving like he have a mental issue because a correct person would not do what he was doing."

"What I could tell the general public is that Ms Rose needs some assistance because her property was totally destroyed, everything that she had."

The man was reportedly living at the shelter for about a year and six months.
