Six years ago, six kids grieved the loss of their mothers after both women were killed in San Ignacio.
It was back in May 2016 when 40-year-old Miriam Mai and her sister in law, 29-year-old Daisy Miralda, were working at Mai's salon. Mai's common-law husband, security guard Andy Bustillos, stormed in and shot both of them before turning the gun on himself.
He survived, however, and has been pending trial for their deaths ever since. Tonight, we can tell you that the trial is finished and Bustillos was sentenced to over two decades in prison on two counts of the lesser charge of manslaughter. Each count carries a 12 year sentence, and which are to run consecutively, going back to May of 2016 when he was first remanded.
It wasn't the result the family wanted, as they believed he should have been convicted for murder. They made this clear back in May of this year when Miralda's son, Chris Rodriguez, was stabbed while trying to play football at the Norman Broaster Stadium.
Old wounds were reopened that day, and again today, after Bustillos' sentence.
