And while Meighan is a free man, attorney Sharon Pitts was in court today - not representing a client - but because she is being sued by the government for $400,000. This is the equivalent of the compensation she received from the Barrow Administration back in 2016 when she had purchased a parcel of land for $10,000 that was already owned by someone else. It was a parcel adjoining the one which famously ended up in the ownership of the then Minister's son, Andre Vega, for which he was also lavishly compensated.
Today was day two of her trial, in front of Supreme Court Justice, Lisa Shoman. Yesterday, witness Jerjett Gutierrez, the senior lands officer, testified that they had sent Pitts a letter stating that the land was previously owned and as such, could not be surveyed. However, Pitts denied getting that letter and insisted that she had no idea the land was owned by someone else.
After the hearing today, Pitts' attorney, Hubert Elrington, spoke to the media.
The parcel of land in question is 1.5 acres and located near the Haulover Bridge.
