Belize City resident Alondra Aguilar is in the hospital tonight in a serious condition after she was cut to the throat and stabbed in the abdomen, allegedly by 31-year-old Wilmer Rivera, a man with whom she had been in a relationship. It happened on the street near the couple's home at mile 2 1/2 on the George Price Highway where neighbours heard screams and shouting, and passersby watched it happen thinking that Alondra was being punched in the stomach not stabbed.
Shortly after the incident, she rushed herself to the hospital in a taxi, her attacker attempted to flee but was instead placed under citizen's arrest by ex-cop Darrel "Tutsi" Usher who used his licence firearm to detain Rivera until the police were able to arrive. Tutsi later handed the assailant and his knife to his former colleagues.
Aguilar is the mother of one young daughter and as we told you she remains in stable condition at the KHMH but personnel there say that her difficult recovery will have to begin with several surgeries.
