7News continues to receive reports of a US visa fraud operation carried out by one man who told dozens of applicants - that he could get them a US visa if they paid him $1,500 dollars. All they had to give him was a picture and he would do the rest. All of them then got a bogus email telling them their interview had been confirmed for August 21st. Of course, there was no interview, the embassy didn't even know who they were. And tonight - so many of them are scratching their heads and their wallets in confused disbelief that they ere conned by a man who claims to have a special "in" with the US Embassy.
Today the US Ambassador didn't want to go into it, but emphasized that there's a proper online procedure which is the only way to get a US visa.
Michelle Kwan, US Ambassador to Belize
"I can't say too much on the details but I encourage folks to go online. And also I know that the process is often daunting for a visa and if they need assistance I would encourage them to get reputable lawyers and others involved to help them."
A statement from the US Embassy says you should visit https://bz.usembassy.gov/ for information on applying for nonimmigrant or immigrant visas.
