Tonight, two men are staring down life in prison after they were sentenced today.

They are 24 year old Jeffrey Contreras and 21 year old Eric Miranda, two men who were convicted of the murder of 57 year old Sean Menzies,

They were sentenced today by Justice Ricardo Sandcroft. The judge stipulated that both men are to serve 30 years less time served, before they are eligible for parole.

Before he passed sentence, Justice Sandcroft heard a plea for mitigation from Miranda and Contreras. Miranda said he has become a christian and he is sorry for partaking in the murder. Contreras also expressed his remorse.

One the chief witness at trial was Iran Jones. He was killed after he testified. A second chief witness, Jayden Herrera, was declared a hostile witness after he took the stand and denied having any knowledge about the incident. Herrera who is on remand for another murder, was charged with Menzies' murder after Contreras and Miranda were convicted.

Contreras was represented by attorney Darrell Bradley while Miranda was represented by attorney Arthur Saldiver.

The Crown was represented by Crown Counsel Portia Ferguson.
