And it's not just uncustomed liquor that the Customs Department is dealing with, but contraband produce as well. Over the weekend, the Customs Enforcement Unit in Consejo, Corozal, made a bust of 4,000 pounds of assorted potatoes, onions, carrots, lettuce, green cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, avocados and mangoes.

And BAHA will also be cracking down on contraband during this long weekend. Due to an influx in contraband activities during the Easter holiday BAHA has decided to increase its surveillance measures. Today they issued a release stating that, quote, "BAHA reminds all importers, suppliers, supermarkets, market vendors and the public that importing agricultural products without the necessary permit is illegal and that the possession of illegally imported agricultural products is prohibited." End quote.

According to BAHA an increase in Contraband crossings also gives way for the risk of new pests and diseases.

Anyone caught with illegal products will be fined or prosecuted.
