Golf cart accidents are common in San Pedro, especially at night. But footage we obtained today shows one golf cart driver nodding off in the driver's seat - and driving his cart straight into a person riding a bicycle.
It happened yesterday when the driver appeared to be drunk as he drove on northern San Pedro veering across the road. He eventually hit a cyclist - who was on the far right of the road. The impact happened near The Truck Stop, one mile north of the bridge.
The person recording the incident from behind another golf cart quickly stopped to render aid. Upon approaching the accident, two persons could be seen lying on the ground on opposite sides of the cart, one of them with his wheel beneath the vehicle. According to witnesses the driver was reportedly drunk and so he was arrested and charged for drunk driving. The victim didn't want to press charges.
