On July 3rd police received information that a 60 year old woman living in the southside area was dragged into her home and raped by an intruder. The man forcefully made his way into the house through a window at 4:00 in the morning. The woman attempted to run out of the house to get help but as she made her way to the corner of Antelope Street Extension the intruder followed her and dragged her back inside, where he allegedly raped her.
Police investigations later led them to detain 33 year old Samuel Bernardez who appeared in court this morning and was read a single charge of rape. No plea was taken from him and no bail was offered given the nature of the offense. Bernardez was unrepresented in court, and was remanded to the Belize Central prison until September 17th.
