There was a major drug destruction in the north today.
It consisted of an assortment of drugs - totaling over one thousand pounds in various drugs collected in the Corozal District.
Sr Superintendent Chris Noble spoke with our colleagues from CTV3 and highlighted the importance of public transparency and doing the job right:
Sr. Supt. Chris Noble, Commander of Administrations - Eastern Division
"Well, what we're witnessing is the destruction of a compilation of found property and exhibits from arrest, concluded cases, et cetera. it's the one from Corozal, as we had previously done the Orange Walk District."
"We had not done it for a couple of years, and it is a significant amount that we are dealing with today."

"What are we looking at in terms of what is being destroyed?"

Sr. Supt. Chris Noble
"I would say upwards of 500 kilos of drugs. That would include cannabis, hashish, resin, crystal, meth, cocaine, heroin. The crack cocaine, so it's a mixture of what it is, and it's way more than 500 kilos."

"Talk to us about the importance of having these exercises carried out, you know, in a timely manner."
Sr. Supt. Chris Noble
"The importance is that we will not be having people comment. It is for us, if you note, that we have a magistrate, we have a justice of the peace, we have people from the media. Why? Because we want to show that we're operating in the best interest of the public and just basically showing our hands that we're not hiding anything from anybody in any shape or form."
Police are planning another destruction exercise in 6 months.
