And one key component of that investigation leads to the Mahogany Street police substation. As 7News has shown, on August 21st, PC Barry Flowers got a police weapon from that station - even though he was on leave.
But, how was he able to sign out that gun - and who authorized it?
Tonight, PC Flowers remains on interdiction. We asked the Acting ComPol who put him there:
Courtney Menzies:
"In terms of Barry Flowers, how was he able to sign out a gun from SPU when he was on leave?"
Bart Jones, Acting Commissioner of Police

"All those issues, whether internally in terms of whether police officers breach their code of conduct or disciplinary procedures, the investigation will be looking at all of that so from a criminal perspective and also from an internal perspective so if it means a police officer may have reneged in his duty, if that is the findings then he will be put before a disciplinary tribunal as the case may be so we'll just wait to see what the results of the investigation will."
Courtney Menzies:
"Can you say who was behind the decision to put him on interdiction because we have asked the prime minister and the minister of home affairs and they said it wasn't their call?"
Bart Jones, Acting Commissioner of Police
"The call actually was mine. what the evidence that has come forward so far where he has been identified, the only person who has been identified so far and so I thought that it was sufficient to put him on interdiction while the investigation continues and as I said, this is the same that occurs whenever a police officer, to the extent that there is some credible information that they may be involved in a crime, we'll normally put them on interdiction so I signed that interdiction."
