Police in San Ignacio have detained three people following the discovery of a firearm and a large quantity of ammunition during an operation in Cayo this morning.
Around 10:00 a.m. officers searched a residence on Maya Street, San Ignacio Town. Present at the time were two men in their twenties and a woman in her fifties.
Police discovered a 9mm rifle-type firearm, identified as a Givati brand weapon. They also found two magazines, a drum magazine, 195 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 20 rounds of.223 ammunition hidden inside a bucket in one of the rooms.
None of the occupants could produce a valid firearm license. As a result, all three were detained and escorted to the San Ignacio Police Station, pending formal charges for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
