Tonight, a Coast Guardsman accused of trying to kill his estranged common-law wife has been remanded to prison. Brian Chiac was arraigned today for attempted murder, and use of deadly means of harm against Police Constable Jessica Pou.

It happened on Monday in Belize City where they had a dispute over money. She told police that Chiac got home drunk at 3:30 am and ordered her to make a money transfer of four thousand dollars that she had been saving for him. He threatened to stab her, and that's when she locked herself in a room - but he kicked the door open and forced her to make the transfer.

Even after she did that he still stabbed her multiple times - four times to her left arm and two to her right foot. When police arrived at the house, she was unconscious from the loss of of blood.

In court, no plea was taken from Chiac and due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January 12, 2026.
