Between March 2023 and November 2025, the Dangriga Treasury has been burglarized 3 times - resulting in the theft of tens of thousands of dollars. So far, police have not made any arrests and there have not been any disciplinary charges. Which begs the question, does the government even care? Today we asked the Financial Secretary about it and he says the treasury may have to be moved - but they're not there just yet.

Joseph Waight, Financial Secretary

"Well, you know, it's really unfortunate. We tried to put in as many, short of putting in 24 hour security. That may be the next step. We don't know. And we put in a lot of, effort in strengthening the place. If you've seen pictures on the, on the internet, I mean, it was over a holiday weekend, a holiday, the building, we have it in a cage. We have, lock boxes. And so, it may come to a point where we may have to think of a new location. We're not there yet, you know, but. Or possibly even 24 hour security, on the buildings because it's a reflection of just the times we live in. We're leaving the police to do the investigation. Disciplinary means, unless there's some fault in the procedure. We don't know. Fortunately, the loss this time was relatively small. Under thousand dollars, I'm told. But still, any losses is a problem. So we're taking steps to try to strengthen the place a little bit more, but it may come that we have to move. We haven't made that decision yet."

Sources tell us the current location for the treasury - through burglary prone - is maintained for a politically connected person.
