There was a murder on East Canal this afternoon - just about 500 feet from our studio. 7News was first on the scene after Jahmy Belgrave's family rushed him to the hospital. Here's what Clifford Mejia saw:
Today at just after 4:00 pm, 28 year old Jahmy Belgrave was visiting his children at his family home here on East Canal when he was shot right at the entrance just as he was leaving.
A gunman who is believed to have been waiting for him fired 3 shots - and sped off. Belgrave was rushed to the KHMH but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police were quick to respond with strike teams but they could only gather evidence. They collected the expended shells, bullet fragments, blood swabs and now have another murder to solve - this one likely gang related. Belgrave was charged for being a member of the George Street gang in 2023.
Belgrave's uncle, well known family court driver Raymond Belgrave died in a fatal accident in May of this year.
