And, in other news, yesterday a viewer pointed out to us that Sarstoon Island had been sort of claimed by the Guatemalans on Google Maps. The island which forms part of Belize's southern boundary had been deliberately mislabelled on Google Maps as "Isla saestoon Guatemala."
Well we told our Facebook followers about it in a post and within 12 hours - no doubt after many angry edits were submitted to Google Maps - as of this morning we saw that it had been edited to reflect the true name. The island is now labelled "Sarstoon Island ( BELIZE TERRITORY)! - exclamation mark and all.
According to google, "Places are named on Google Maps through a combination of sources, including partnerships with businesses, user contributions, and official governmental and commercial data.
