The new Police Minister Oscar Mira says it's time for his ministry to reorganize.
Minister Mira said that despite a recent surge in violent crime, there is still hope that under his leadership there will be changes.
He offered a feeble boast that the murder count for 2025 compared is down by 1 over 2024:
Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs

"If you look at the statistics, last year, the statistics shows that we were one below the number for the previous year."
"And indeed, it is alarming that we started the new year with a murder. And we are looking at making sure that our different units of the police department are well equipped. They have been retasked. We are going to reorganize. We're going to retask the special branch. We're going to retask the CIB and all those units that do investigations. It is not an easy task. Most of the time we can only see the statistics of what happened. Whatever the police department prevents in terms of their anti-crime prevention strategy and their patrols, those things are really, you can't quantify what hasn't happened."
We should note that once again, our numbers for the murder count for 2025 do not match with the police department's. Ours has the total count at 4 higher than the official number.
