Tonight, a police officer is said to be in stable condition after he was reportedly shot this afternoon. Sgt. Dalon Kelly was shot this afternoon in the Maya Ranch Area of Georgeville - where he is stationed.
Half an hour ago, Police reported that they have detained one man and seized a 9mm pistol as part of the investigation into the shooting.
Initial reports indicate that at approximately 3:30pm Sergeant Kelly, along with other police officers, responded to a report of a disturbance in the Maya Ranch area, located approximately four miles along the road to Mountain Pine Ridge. During the course of the police response to the disturbance, Sergeant Kelly was reportedly shot by the suspect.
Kelly was transported to the hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
For context we note that 7News has been following up on a land dispute between squatting farmers and private land owners in this area since January - when there was a complaint of attempted murder by the property manager. He claimed one of the farmers tried to shoot him and run him over in the presence of forestry officers. Police were also a part of the response to the dispute in that conflict-heavy area.
