A police officer convicted of sexually assaulting a female colleague and sent to prison for it is facing a longer jail sentence tonight. That's because 40-year-old Brigilio Ack tried to appeal his 8 month sentence in the High Court.

Justice Nigel Pilgrim dismissed Ack's appeal against conviction but allowed the appeal against sentence, ultimately resentencing him to 18 months imprisonment.

After deducting 98 days spent in pretrial detention, Ack has 1 year, 2 months and 24 days remaining to serve from March 10, 2026.

Ack was originally convicted for assaulting the officer in March 2023 by groping her breast and kissing her neck without consent during a tour of duty.

The court also ordered mandatory counseling and psychiatric treatment for Ack while at the Belize Central Prison and ruled that upon release he must register as a sex offender and notify authorities before changing his residence.
