One illegal firearm, fifteen live rounds of ammunition, and two men claiming absolute ignorance have resulted in both a landlord and his tenant being remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

33-year-old tenant Andre Devon Garnett today joined his landlord, 34-year-old construction worker Thomas Ferguson, behind bars. Both men maintain they had no knowledge of the unlicensed weapon discovered on their shared property.

Garnett appeared unrepresented in Court #7 today. He pleaded not guilty to charges of keeping an unlicensed firearm and keeping unlicensed ammunition. But when he learned that he couldn't get bail, an emotional Garnett questioned why he was being penalized simply for renting the space. "I work from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.," Garnett told the court. "I have no clue as to what is happening at that residence."

Garnett's remand follows that of his landlord, Ferguson, who was arraigned on the exact same charges on Friday, May 15, 2026. At his own arraignment, Ferguson admitted to owning the property but claimed he was merely conducting renovations on the unit and had no knowledge of any illegal items hidden inside.

Both Andre Garnett and Thomas Ferguson have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 10, 2026, when they are scheduled to reappear in Court.
