But while the Immigration office was being fleeced in Belize City, the minister has been jetting off to different Belizean embassies and consular offices for Belize Immigration Mobile Passport Hub events.
It seems like a fully paid political junket - complete with his entourage - to perform tasks that the staff in those offices do on their own quite capably.
We asked him about it:
Reporter
"What was it necessary for yourself and your entourage to make these trips to different embassies where these procedures they conduct happen everyday. Why was your presence necessary?"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Immigration

"You know, that's I guess it's a fair question, I should say, but I'm a very hands on, minister. You might have seen that when I was the minister of Home Affairs. I think it displays a level of interest showing interest on my part, whether it's traveling to a rural area of Belize, in the villages to deal with migration matters, whether it's traveling to Houston to visit with or diaspora, and to make sure that the processes are running smoothly. I think it's very important for ministers to be present. Obviously, there is going to be a cut in terms of moving forward for foreign travel. I know that we have one coming up in Florida, in July. I don't intend to be on that one. But certainly there are occasions where, the minister might be required to be present."
