Between the Rotary, Rotaract, and Lion's Clubs, there's no shortage of philanthropic groups giving back to the community. But as they say, you can never have too much and tonight a new kid on the charity block, The Young Professionals Club, will be launched at the bliss center. It is being formed by seven young professionals and the club's mission will be, as they state it, "to enrich the community by uniting and developing young professionals." The Club's President elect is Kurt Clare and he says it will be a homegrown charity.
Kurt Clare, President Elect BYPC
"We want to give them the opportunity to give something back to the community, we want them to build relationships and network where they can exchange ideas, we also want them to as well have fun at doing that as we have created.
We will focus on three main areas: philanthropy, education, and social and entertainment events. Basically the whole core of it is that we want to ensure that we give back to the community and its not just for select people, we want to give back to the entire community and not just as charitable monies and that kind of thing, we want to give them as well manpower. We want to go into different places and ensure we put in real community work."
Keith Swift,
Why are you doing this?
Kurt Clare,
"The seven of us decided we wanted to form a club like this because we wanted to create something that is more, for stealing some words, homegrown. We wanted to ensure that we don't have to tie ourselves to any other international body and that is something that we have worked on and we have worked on it here in Belize and we have created it so its more Belizean than anything else."
Tonight's launch begins at 7 pm at the Bliss Center. Membership is open to young professionals between the ages of 20 and 39. You can find out more about the club on their website at http://www.belizeypc.org.
