About 16 adventurers spent last weekend in kayaks racing 30 miles from the coast of Toledo across the Gulf of Guatemala and ending in Livingston, Guatemala. For what? Well, the kayak-a-thon, as it is called, was organized by the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment, TIDE, to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina victims on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The 16 adventurers came from Toledo based NGOs such as SATIIM, the Julian Cho Society, and the Toledo campus of the University of Belize. TIDE organizers say that so far they have raised about $4,000 which will be passed on to the Katrina victims.
