Kathy and Laura Esquivel, attorney Carlo Mason, Yvonne Moore, and Sandra McKay are some of the professionals who will leave their offices and hit the stage this weekend. They are all Rotarians and they will be starring in 'Cindyrelisha,' a musical remake of the classic Cinderella fairytale. The play is being held to raise funds for Rotary's Gift of Life Program which helped to save the life of heart patient Neville Bermudez just last month. The play's director is Jamaican comedy king Glen Campbell who is performing free of cost. He told us what to expect.
Glen Campbell, Director
"We've taken the international story of Cinderella with the prince and the glass slipper and we've given it a Caribbean flavor. It was originally done in Jamaica in 2002 and it ran for an entire year in Jamaica, after touring around the island and traveling to North America. And so we thought it would be easily transported into a Belizean setting and so what we've done is incorporated a musical comedy; its laughter, its fun, its songs, dancing, magic fantasy, and lots of excitement for the entire family. So if you're old, you're young, everybody can come and enjoy this performance."
Yvonne Moore, Rotary Club Member
"I play the role of a servant. It's a very minor role but a lot of fun. It's an outlet and I've discovered that I did not realize that we had so much hidden talent in Belize, it is incredible."
Sandra McKay, Rotary Club President
"I am playing the role of one of the stepsisters, the wicked stepsister. The cast is made up entirely of Rotarians along with Glen Campbell. So we're having a lot of fun on stage, it's a lot to look forward to. It's a lot of clean fun, family fun, so we want to invite everybody to come out. We will not be able to repeat the shows so you must come out Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday to see it. Whenever we do these fundraisers it is critical we get the support from the Belizean public because Yvonne will share with you the amount of children we help each year and it's a very costly program to run. So we're looking for everybody to come out. This is the only weekend the show will be able to run. We will not have an encore because Glen will be leaving back to Jamaica so we want everybody to come out and support, have fun, and really contribute to a worthy cause."
Tickets are $25 for reserved, $15 for general seating, and $50 for premium seats. Again the show only runs for three nights, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Bliss Center.
