First Caribbean Bank today launched its annual search for Belize's Unsung Heroes. You know the people we are talking about those in the community who give selflessly of themselves for the betterment of all, and don't send out a press release to tell the world. We know they're out there because for the past three years, Belize's unsung heroes have been named the regional heroes, best in the Caribbean at doing great things in silent ways. It's a winning streak that First Caribbean's Country Manager Stephen Duncan hopes will continue this year. To do it, he says the bank needs your help.
Stephen Duncan, FCIB Country Manager
"The Unsung Hero Award is where we as a bank use a portion of our profits to try to pump back into the communities where we operate, where we function, where we serve and this is one of doing it. In fact this is now becoming very fast sort of the flagship brand where we single out or identify people in the community who are those who give selflessly of themselves within the community and try to help others who are less fortunate than themselves and we try to reward them. These are people who generally or traditionally would not be rewarded through normal other means and get all the publicity that other people get. So we look for these type of people, feeling that they are so critical to our community, to the success of our community, that we think its necessary to reward them. They need to continue doing what they are doing.
We want nominations. We want as many nominations as possible. Last year we got somewhere around 25 thereabout anyhow but we want to top that this year. We want to be do better because we are certain that more people are now aware of the program and the success it has brought to Belize where we have won all three awards since its inception."
The three regional unsung heroes from Belize are Florence Dillet in 2003, Nurse Nancy Juan in 2004, and Gloria Edwards in 2005. The deadline for submissions of entries is July 28th. You can send those nominees to First Caribbean Bank. The entries will be reviewed by a local panel and finalists will be announced in October.
