He has performed on numerous stages and written many books and now famed Belizean storyteller Bernard Watler wants to leave his imprint on DVD. Watler today shot a DVD for "Bra Anansi's escape to noh more noh more." He performed for high school students at the Bliss Center and after the performance he told us why this is another classic Anansi tale.
Bernard Watler,
"It is a classic interpretation of Bra Anansi and it is not traditional stories although we try to bring in the traditional and the modern Bra Anansi and see how the two could interact in today's situation and basically this is what 'Escape to noh more noh more' is all about; you know the small man, Bra Anansi, trying to escape the tentacles of Bra Alligator, commerce.
School children are my fort because it is almost always my belief that if I can get the children hooked to my work, then I can walk proudly about because getting anybody else is natural because kids are finicky and today when I am looking down at the audience to see everybody laughing and having a good time at Bra Anansi's antics, that also helped me to do a better performance and I think it is going to be a dynamite DVD when it gets out."
The DVD should be out in December along with a new novel for children. Watler takes his show on the road next week to the United States for a tour of universities.
