It's World Red Cross Day and today it was celebrated locally with an open day at the BTL-Constitution Park. The Red Cross movement dates back to 1914 in Belize and today there are more than 1200 volunteers, 200 of them being active. Director General of the Red Cross Lily Bowman told us why they celebrate.
Lily Bowman, Director General - Red Cross
"It is the day that all the volunteers and staff of the Red Cross movement throughout the world, 185 countries, celebrate the work that all staff and volunteers have been doing in whatever humanitarian service that we provide.
We are showcasing all our activities, our programs, our disaster preparedness program, our HIV and Aids peer education program, our first aid programs, we have a little bit of history that is on display, we also have our detachment six volunteers doing free readings, and we also have a little cake sale."
