The Primary School Festival of Arts opens tonight at the Bliss Center. The month long celebration of music, dance, and drama will feature over 300 hundred performances from 2,300 children. That's a record number of entries and participants and this morning we got a preview.

Keith Swift Reporting,
The 2007 Primary School Festival of the Arts kicked off at 9 this morning with a grand parade through the streets. It is a grand start for what NICH President Yasser Musa says will be the biggest year yet for the festival.

Yasser Musa, NICH President
"This year 2007 will probably be the biggest festival we've seen. Last year over 1,900 youths took the stage. This year we expect to host 2,300. Last year we saw some 246 entries and this year we are preparing for over 300."

And this morning in the NICH parking lot, we got a preview of those performances starting with this flute solo from Xuxek Novelo of the Belize Music School and this dance called the Sambi Bram from Queen's Square Primary School. Musa says that over the next month what will take place on the stage inside the Bliss will be nothing short of magical.

Yasser Musa,
"Over the few weeks this beautiful Bliss will turn into a magical place where your music, dance, and drama will come alive."

The Institute of Creative Arts' director William Neal agrees. He says art is life.

William Neal, Director - ICA
"This year the festival's theme is 'art is life' because with all the violence now that we have, we need definitely a positive outlet for our young people. Art is a universal language that gives us the ability to express ourselves."

The festival runs for one month. As is the tradition - you can look forward to nightly highlights right here on 7NEWS.
