Last month a Miss Big and Beautiful was chosen but those six contestants don't have the market cornered on being a plus sized queen. A Miss Big Bold and Fabulous will be chosen next Friday and today we met the contestants.
Sayuri Cattouse, "Luscious"
"Not because someone is fat that means that they cannot do something that someone who is thin can do."
And that's why Sayuri Cattouse, aka Luscious, and these other contestants are participating in the Miss Big, Bold, and Beautiful pageant. The contestants say sure - they are plus sized but that's a good thing.
Anna-Frid Young, "Dyamond"
"The young ladies came to me with the idea of going up and we thought it was a positive thing for young ladies of our size these days so I guess probably if I do go up and make a positive outcome, then people will try to do the same - no matter what size you are."
Sayuri Cattouse,
"Everyone that knows me knows that I am not an open or outgoing person doing something crazy as this so that is why and also I think it would be fun so I wanted to try something new. There are people who have big bones in their family, like my family, and so I am naturally fat. Yes I gained some over the years but naturally it is in my family."
Cecily Trapp, "Stormy"
"I am a big girl and they asked me to so I am going to support the carnival group and the children. I am big so I can do it."
Shomac Garbutt, "Delicious"
"My nickname is 'Delicious,' if you want to see why they call me delicious you will come out and see. It will be exciting to see big women doing the latest dances."
The pageant is being held to raise money for the Black Pearl Carnival Band. And organizer Trecia Morris say it will be a celebration of what it means to be large and in charge.
Trecia Morris, Coordinator
"Its about thick women, as you can see, showing that they can do the same thing that slim women can do and maybe even do it better. The show is helping junior carnival bands. It is an annual thing that we do to help junior carnival bands, every year we help a band."
Not interviewed in the story were Tiffany Stephens and Shakira Terry. The pageant will be held next week Friday at the Bird's Isle.
