Their praises were sung when they were selected as national unsung heroes earlier this year by First Caribbean Bank but now Lyndon and Lavern Bailey have gone regional. That's right, Belize has once again won the bank's regional unsung hero award. The announcement was made at the Tubal Vocational Institute in Ladyville today and 7NEWS was there as Lyndon and Lavern Bailey accepted a check for an additional $15,000.
Lyndon Bailey, Founder - Tubal Institute
"My heart is filled with joy because two things I wanted to happen to this school. I wanted this school to have big publicity so that people could know about Tubal and then I wanted what I have been telling these kids that something will happen that they could see that what I have been telling them is for real. It doesn't matter where you come from, it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor. If you set your life to do good - you can achieve what you want to achieve in life.
What we're trying to do with the funds we received is to open a service center for vehicles and that service center will be used to help us to defray some of the costs, the everyday bills we have to pay within our school."
Tomorrow we'll look more closely at the work the couple do at Tubal.
