And Cardona isn’t the only Good Samaritan on the news tonight as today the Caye Caulker Water Taxi Association along with the village council packed $2,000 worth of food supplies and other necessities and took it to Cayo for the flood victims. The Lobster Fest Committee Chairman Porfilio Guzman and Village Chairman Ralph Humes led the initiative.
Ralph Humes, Caye Caulker Chairman
“We contacted a gentleman by the name of Al Westby up in San Ignacio, he is a member of NEMO and he had mentioned to us that those folks really need some help. So with the help of the Caye Caulker Water Taxi the business community of Caye Caulker, the Caye Caulker Village Council, Lobster Fest Committee, and the Veterans Football Club we have come up with donations. This is our second trip in. We had sent up a truckload on Friday and now we are going up personally to meet these people and give them what we can offer them.”
Hector Alpuche, Manager – Water Taxi Terminal
“We are sending some food supplies that we got and some other stuff that we had gotten from the general public, the villagers of Caye Caulker.”
Porfilio Guzman, Chairman – Lobster Fest Committee
“We giving away, like taking along with us, a lot of clothing, a lot of food like noodles, rice, flour sugar, biscuit, cans of corn beef, sausages – you name and we got it. Most of the things here right now we got it from the community of Caye Caulker.
We have to remember that today for me, tomorrow for you.”
Hector Alpuche,
“A few years ago Caye Caulker was in the same position and we know what it is like.””
The association says they made a similar donation last week.
