It is New Year’s Eve –the end of 2009 and the start of a new decade. That means it is time for resolutions - you know it is those promises we make to ourselves at the start of every year. And just as how resolutions are a tradition – so is 7News hitting the streets to find out how Belizeans plan to change their lives. So in keeping with tradition, this evening Keith Swift and cameraman Codie Noralez went downtown Belize City searching for resolutions. What our team didn’t expect to find was that many Belizeans will be tempering their celebration because of the crime situation.

Gary Baltazar,
“I want to quit drinking. I just want to change my life. I want to be better. I want to go to America.”

River of Fire,
“My New Year’s resolution is to quit smoking because it is not good for you and it is about time. Plus hard times are coming.”

Man #1,
“Make me a better person and change my lifestyle, my ways with everybody and to make my company grow and my family grow and to uplift Belize.”

Woman #1,
“To be the best single mother that I could be.”

Woman #2,
“To find a house of my own and stop pay rent. Own my own house.”

Ernest Meighan,
“To be a better person and to go to church more.”

Elisa Castellanos,
“My New Year’s Resolution is healthcare; diabetes on the rise, high blood pressure. I think it is time to be healthier and more environmentally conscious.”

Man #2,
“For the new year I am trying to better myself in the taxi business because I don’t own my own car and so I am trying to get my own thing.”

And that’s the news on this New Year’s Eve. Have a safe New Year’s Eve great New Year’s holiday Thanks for watching 7News in 2009 and we look forward to being there and everywhere for you in 2010. So join us back here on Monday January fourth 2010.
