And while they were doing diversity in the city - last night in San Ignacio and Santa Elena the country's fourth House of Culture was opened.

It is a partnership between NICH and the town council to further promote the rich culture of the twin towns. Diane Haylock, President of NICH, told the gathering last night that the House of Culture will only bring more life to the already lively twin towns:

Diane Haylock, President NICH

"The twin town of San Ignacio and Santa Elena is already a pictures place but it can become even more alive with a regular cultural offering coming out of the "Si seh House of Culture" I'd like to encourage you to take ownership of this space and culturally en-liven this great little town of yours."

John August, Mayor - San Ignacio

"This day this event marks the revitalization of the rich cultural history of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. As we look back at the rich history of this area as Dr. Jaime Awe just mention we realize how privilege we are to be a part of this event. For me culture is not just about the economic value of our creative industries it is what define us as a civilization and as a country."

The House of Culture is located at #7 King Street, San Ignacio Town and currently has on display "29 Artist, Works, Years" - curated by former artist Gilvano Swasey. In addition, to opening the House of Culture, Diane Haylock also said that NICH is in the process of acquiring the old San Ignacio Hospital as a historical landmark.
