And today we encountered a wrecking crew from CYDP who could care less about the Millennium Development Goals, but are probably working - albeit unknowingly - towards one.
They are preparing grounds for a Youth Center. It will be housed at the old Batty Bus Terminal, which the CYDP had been using for storage for its drain sweeping project.
Now the sweepers have become demolition men, and they told us how it feels to be part of something much bigger.
Supt. Edward Broaster, CYDP
"The young men are breaking down the existing structures here at Mosul Street to give way for a youth center that will be constructed in this area."
Work Supervisor

"The youths are really doing a nice little work because they are not use to this kind of work here, we are really bringing it to perfection."
Monica Bodden
"A lot of work?"
Work Supervisor
"A lot and work and pain too. Everybody get a scrape and a dig but we are working."
Monica Bodden
"Something positive."
Work Supervisor
"This is real positive vibes that we are showing to the entire countrywide, everybody can see that. They say that we are criminals, but we show them that we are not criminals now. We are people."
Worker

"This is good work out for us to keep us off the streets but some of the youths in Belize don't want to work but CYDP is extending the job right now but a lot of them don't want to work. This is good exercise for us right here. It keeps our mind motivated, keep our kidney lively and keep Jah loving. Enough of them don't want to praise Jah, fun and praise. everybody think about kill, mammy, I don't know why. But I like talk to the youths them and let them know to put down the gun and the violence. We have a lot of old building to broke down. we don't want to live like the Spanish them, we want to move up, Everybody want to down press each other, we are not on that, we are on uplifting everybody in this nation every day."
Work started last Tuesday and will be finished by Sunday. The piling will commence after that.
