A courageous and complex teenager has self-published and launched a new book of poetry.

It's called Citizens of Decadence and the author Bastien Cantareul told us the idea for the book started with a girlfriend who loved to read:

Bastien Cantareul - Self-Published First Book

"It's about basically the corruption in everything - like hence the decadence - there is like the corruption in love, death, in the people, like betrayal - like different topics like that. I don't know, the book idea just came along from different people, and I had different inspirations - people I know who've written books. And then I had a girlfriend that loved to read books, so I said that I was going to write it for her, like only for her, but eventually it got attention by publishers. Yeah, I can see it's like an "emo" book, but as I said, not necessarily what people think is "emo" at its basis, I guess"

Jules Vasquez
"It seems to have a perhaps, more than healthy obsession with - fixation perhaps - with death, and the undoing of life. Is that a continuing theme?"

Bastien Cantareul
"It - You might see it in so many poems, like especially the last chapter, but its not that sort of like an - its not to the point of obsession. It's just an introspective look on death, as well as an introspective look on love, and betrayal, and different stuff like that."

The book is available at the Image Factory bookstore and other outlets.
