Yesterday marked the beginning of the celebration of Police Week, and today, a contingent of officers from the Eastern Division set out to different locations of the city to give them a facelift in an effort to build community pride and trust.
7News caught up with them as they spruced up the basketball court on Euphrates Avenue.
Here's what they told us about the day's initiative:
Sgt. Elroy Carcamo, Officer Commanding Community Policing
"Today is set aside for community upliftment and what happen is that we have our officers visiting certain areas within the city trying to see what we can do to uplift the area. If you notice here at this basketball court there were a lot of bush and garbage all over the place. So we decided to come in and give it a little facelift by cleaning the area and painting around the fence side and so forth."
"This morning we were in Pink's Alley where we worked in conjunction with the city council and we had the roads scraped and filled and also we painted some parts that had graffiti and the basketball court."

"It is a project which we were hopeful that we would have had more community members coming out and assist us because this is their community and nothing is better than when you clean your community - you don't want anyone to come and mess it up. We had a little assistance from Pink's Alley but I can understand that school is on. We had some students that we spoke to last week and since school is on we will work on it for them."
Tomorrow, the department plans to host an open-day fair at their Queen Street compound.
